From the time I was 4 years old, until my family came and ado pted me when I was twelve. Life at the orphans founding was a struggle. Many times during the -67 F winter season, the boilers at the orphanage would break down. Groups of children would climb into various beds and shiver unitedly darn trying to stay warm. There was no hot body of water in the orphanage. When it was time to do the dishes, or bathe, we had to heat water in big kettles. The kettles were not a pretty stilt for sore, cold eyes. Everyone looked mad, depressed and tyred. Food was not usually in abundance, to say the least. The food we ate had to be prepared by the children. We had many line of works signed to us. My favorite chore was to peel what seemed like millions of potatoes. Those potatoes were planted, harvested, and stored by the children in the orphanage. We ate baked, mashed, and perfumed potatoes. On spare occasions, we were treated to a wonderful fish dinner! The topical anesthetic fishermen would donate some of their puzzle to th e orphanage.
